    The primary code governing structural design in Bangladesh is the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC). Part 6 of BNBC covers structural loads (dead, live, wind, and earthquake) and their combinations. For reinforced concrete design, ACI 318 is widely referenced alongside BNBC. Steel structures typically follow AISC 360 or BS/Eurocode equivalents.   • Bangladesh sits in a moderate-to-high seismic hazard zone. Earthquake resistance is achieved through seismic design in accordance with BNBC Part 6, Section 2.5.2. Key design measures include ductile reinforcement detailing in beams, columns, and shear walls; shear wall and bracing systems to resist lateral forces; careful mass and stiffness distribution to avoid torsional irregularities; and dynamic analysis (response spectrum analysis) for taller or more complex structures.   • Dhaka's subsurface typically consists of soft alluvial deposits overlying denser strata at depth. For most multi-storied buildings, bored cast-in-situ piles (BCIS piles) are the preferred foundation solution, reaching load-bearing strata at depths of 20–50 m. Driven precast piles are used for medium-rise structures and industrial facilities. Raft foundations are suitable for lower-rise buildings on more competent ground. Our structural team always reviews the geotechnical investigation report to select and design the most appropriate and cost-effective foundation system for the specific site conditions.
