  • What is required to obtain a utility connection from BPDB or DPDC in Bangladesh?

    Obtaining a utility power connection in Bangladesh involves several steps managed through the relevant distribution company — BPDB (outside Dhaka), DPDC (Dhaka south and central), or DESCO (Dhaka north). The typical process requires: application submission with a site plan and load schedule; a load approval letter from the distribution company specifying the maximum permitted demand; design and installation of the customer's substation or service entrance equipment to BPDB/DPDC specifications; inspection and testing of the completed installation by the distribution company's engineers; and metering arrangement and connection agreement. For commercial and industrial customers requiring dedicated 11kV substations, a separate MV connection agreement is needed. For smaller buildings (below approximately 5,000 sq.m), a full BMS may be unnecessarily complex and costly. However, smaller buildings can still benefit significantly from IoT-based sub-metering (energy monitoring at circuit level), standalone DALI lighting control, and smart thermostat controls — which provide much of the visibility and energy savings of a BMS at a fraction of the cost. Urban Engineering specifies the right level of building controls for each project's size, budget, and operational requirements — not the most complex or the cheapest, but the most appropriate.

  • Power factor is the ratio of real power (kW) doing useful work to apparent power (kVA) drawn from the supply.
